Phyllanthus loranthoides var. ripicola is a small shrub endemic of New Caledonia with a scattered distribution in the Grande Terre, between Farino cascade to Galarino cascade. This subspecies could have a wider range of distribution due to its scattered distribution. This subspecies occurs in stream banks of humid forests at an altitude range of 15 and 450 m asl. Phyllanthus loranthoides var. ripicola is not threatened by bushfires but it can be potentially threatened by invasive species (Rusa timorensis). The Extent of Occurrence (EOO) ranges between to 1,000 km² and 5,000 km² and the Area of Occupancy (AOO) of 20 km² and 500 km² and it is known from a small number of locations. Phyllanthus loranthoides var. ripicola is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii) with an estimated decline in habitat quality.
