Notelaea austrocaledonica var. collina is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia, where it is widely distributed across Grande Terre as well as on Ile des Pins. It occurs in shrubland on ultramafic substrate or serpentine up to 1,100 m asl. Some subpopulations may be impacted by habitat degradation by bushfires but globally this variety does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 12,061 and 164 km², respectively. Therefore, Notelaea austrocaledonica var. collina is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Notelaea austrocaledonica var. collina is endemic to New Caledonia where it is widely distributed across Grande Terre, as well as on Ile des Pins.
Population
Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that this variety is very common.
Habitat
This variety occurs in shrubland on ultramafic substrate or serpentine up to 1,100 m asl.
Threats
Some subpopulations may be impacted by habitat degradation by bushfires but globally this variety does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
Notelaea austrocaledonica var. collina is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it occurs in five protected areas: Montagne des sources, Côte Oubliée, Haute Dumbéa, la Dumbéa, Vallée de la Thy.
