Chambeyronia macrocarpa is a solitary subcanopy to emergent tree palm, largely distributed from the south to the north-east of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It is one of the the most widespread palm species in New Caledonia. Chambeyronia macrocarpa shows no preference for soil type and occurs in humid forest from 10-800m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) respectively equal to 12,176 and 188 km² and due to the fact that it is abundant, C. macrocarpa is considered as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Chambeyronia macrocarpa is an endemic palm tree of New Caledonia that is largely distributed from the south to the northeast of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It is one of the the most widespread palm species in New Caledonia.
Population
Population size is not precisely known but census report of the population found dense population per station.
Habitat
Chambeyronia macrocarpa shows no preference for soil type and occurs in humid forest from 10-800m asl.
Threats
The species does not seem to be threatened although some sub-populations may be impacted by invasive species (rats, pigs) and fire.
Conservation
Chambeyronia macrocarpa is protected by legislation in Province Nord and occurs in five protected areas : Vallée de la Thy, Mont Panié, Parc des Grandes Fougères, Nodela, Foret Nord.
