Nemuaron vieillardii is an endemic tree of New Caledonia widespread on Grande Terre from Pouébo in the north to Yaté in the south. Nemuaron vieillardii occurs in dense humid forest on various substrates at an altitudinal range 150-1,500 m asl. This species has a high phylogenetic importance as it is part of the family Atherospermataceae (4 genus) which gather plants of ancient evolution. This species does not seem directly threatened. Nemuaron vieillardii is considered Least Concern (LC).

Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities: Camp des sapins (SLN), Goro (VALE).

Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in several protected areas : Massif du Kouakoué, Rivière bleue, Mont Panié, Forêt de Saille, Haute Yaté, Montagne des sources, Aoupinié This species has a high phylogenetic importance as it is part of the family Atherospermataceae (4 genus) which gather plants of ancient evolution.
