Acianthus grandiflorus is an endemic geophyte orchid of New Caledonia, distributed on Grande Terre from Mont Gouemba to Koniambo. A. grandiflorus occurs in humid forest at an altitudinal range 200-1150 m asl. With an area of occupancy and an extent of occurrence respectively equal to 116 and 5,514 km², A. grandiflorus qualifies as Least Concern.

A. grandiflorus is protected in Province Nord and Province Sud and occurs in numerous protected areas : réserve naturelle du Mont Do, réserve naturelle du Mont Humboldt, réserve naturelle du massif du Kouakoué, réserve naturelle du Mont Mou, réserve naturelle de la Haute Dumbéa, Parc provincial de la Rivière Bleue, réserve naturelle du barrage de Yaté, réserve naturelle de la Haute Yaté, réserve naturelle de la Vallée de la Thy, réserve intégrale de la Montagne des Sources.
