Description Générale
Arbuste ou petit arbre densément ramifié à port en boule ou en candélabre; tronc court et torsadé avec une écorce s'esquammant en lambeaux fibreux.
Répartition en Nouvelle-Calédonie
Cette espèce d'altitude est localiisée dans le Sud de la Grande Terre aux massifs du Humboldt, Kouakoué et Montagne des Sources.
Habitat
En forêt dense ou dans les fourrés altimontains (M)
Substrat
Sur substrat rocheux d'origine ultramafique.
Feuille
Feuillage juvénile formé d'aiguilles courtes opposées décussées ; feuillage adulte à segments articulés courts et raides
Phénologie (Fleur)
Cônes à pollen terminaux et globuleux 2 - 3 x 1,5 - 2 mm
Fruits
Cônes à graines terminaux sur des axes courts 8 - 10 x 7 mm; graines ailée de forme pyramidale.
Particularité
L'architecture de cette espèce est conforme au Modèle de Rauh.
This species has a restricted distribution with an estimated extent of occurrence of only 1,393 km2 and there is continuing decline in the extent and quality of the habitat. The species is not severely fragmented and is known from more than ten locations. Hence the species is listed as Near Threatened as it almost qualifies for a threatened listing under criterion B1ab(iii)+B2ab(iii).

The major threat is wildfire; some subpopulations have been effected by trail construction to facilitate tourism.
