Aire géographique

D. pectinatum is an endemic epiphyte orchid of New Caledonia widespread in Grande Terre (main island).

Population

There is no known detailed population information about D. pectinatum, but it has been listed as 'common' where it occurs, excepted for Tiébaghi sub-population.

Habitat

D. pectinatum occurs along creek in dense shrubland and humid forest on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrate.

Menaces

Excepted the threat of nickel mining for Tiébaghi population, there are no particular threats associated with this species.

Conservation

D. pectinatum is protected by legislation in Province Nord and Province Sud and occurs in numerous protected areas : réserve de nature sauvage du Mont Panié, réserve naturelle du Mont Do, réserve naturelle de la forêt de Saille, réserve naturelle du Mont Humboldt, réserve naturelle du massif du Kouakoué, réserve naturelle du Mont Mou, réserve intégrale de la Montagne des Sources, Parc provincial de la Rivière Bleue, réserve naturelle de la Vallée de la Thy. In the past, the population of Tiébaghi has been subject to a transplantation operation : around 1,000 mature individuals have been transplated in a place named 'Cornwall' with little success. In order to confirm variability of Tiébaghi population , it is highly recommended to conduct field surveys in creek à Paul and Tiébaghi to find again the supposed D. pectinatum var. tiebaghensis. in order to protect the Tiébaghi population. Secondly, research has to be conducted to clearly determine if Tiébaghi sub-population is just a sub-population or a variety.
