Megastylis latilabris is an endemic geophyte orchid of New Caledonia mainly distributed in the southern part of Grande Terre (main island). M. latilabris occurs in damaged shrubland at an altitudinal range 250-1550 m asl. On the basis of field observations, population size is estimated around 1,000 mature individuals. Using criteria D, M. latilabris qualifies as Near Threatened close to Vulnerable D1.

M. latilabris is an endemic geophyte orchid of New Caledonia mainly distributed in the southern part of Grande Terre (main island). It is also mentionned on Mont Panié.
Population
Field observation report little population by station (1-4 mature individuals). On the basis of those informations, population size is estimated around 1,000 mature individuals.
Habitat
M. latilabris occurs in damaged shrubland at an altitudinal range 250-1550 m asl.
Menaces
M. latilabris is threatened by nickel mining on Camp des Sapins locality and could be also affected by bushfire.
Conservation
M. latilabris is protected by legislation in Province Nord and in Province Sud and occurs in protected areas : réserve naturelle du Mont Humboldt, réserve naturelle du massif du Kouakoué, réserve naturelle de la Haute Yaté, réserve naturelle de la Vallée de la Thy, réserve intégrale de la Montagne des Sources, réserve naturelle du Mont Mou. In order to improve our knowledge on this species, it is recommended to conduct filed surveys between Canala and Mt. Koungouahaou as well as in Tonine.
