Description Générale
Arbre de 20-30 m, 5 - 7 branches de 2-3 m. par verticille régulier, à port colonnaire et à cime tabulaire pour les individus âgés .
Répartition en Nouvelle-Calédonie
Cette espèce croît en petites populations relictuelles sur la Grande Terre sur la côte sud et est , plus rarement sur la côte ouest , sur les hauteurs immédiates et à Bélep ( Ile Art).
Habitat
Surcimant les formations forestières escarpées de tallweg et en maquis minier. miniers. (FM)
Substrat
Sur substrat érodé d'origine ultramafique.

Feuilles en écaille sur des ramilles de longueur variable tout autour de l'extrèmité des axes
Phénologie (Fleur)
Cônes à pollen : cylindrique , 12 - 17 x 2,5 - 3 cm.
Fruits
Cône à graines : 10 - 12 x 8 - 10 cm .l
Particularité
Sa croissance remarquablement régulière, surtout en période de jeunesse, fait de lui une espèce ornementale très appréciée.
L'architecture de cette espèce est conforme au Modèle de Massart.

All subpopulations are small with little regeneration observed. The main threats are on-going mining activities that impact some subpopulations and its presence close to coastal areas where fires and human settlements are reducing stands. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are respectively estimated to be of 16,688 km² and 196 km² while the number of locations are estimated to be 9. There is a continuing decline in all parameters except EOO, with some probable complete loss of certain subpopulations. No subpopulations are within protected areas. A. luxurians is assessed as Vulnerable (VU) under criteria B1ab(ii,iii,iv,v)+2ab(ii,iii,iv,v).

Habitat
Arbre émergent de forêt humide sur substrat ultramafique (notamment sur sol brun hypermagnésien) du littoral à 1000m d'altitude

Conservation
None of the subpopulations are protected within reserves. It is recommended to undertake ex-situ and in-situ conservation efforts, in particular: seed banking, ensuring the follow-up of known sub-populations and preserving viable populations within delimited perimeters. Patches of humid forest on ultramafic substrates close to coastal areas should be protected
